2D Boundary Elements

Boundary Conditions

You can establish boundary conditions (either flow or elevation-based conditions) at specified locations on the computational grid using a boundary element (see 2D Boundary Conditions).

There are two types of boundary elements:

Boundary Point element is a discrete point source for either flow injection onto (or removal from) the computational grid.

Boundary Line element supports a spatially distributed transfer of flow onto the computational grid as well as tailwater conditions along the edge of a grid.

Boundary Elements and Catchments

Boundary elements can be used as outflows to catchments. This allows you to distribute pre-calculated hydrologic flow onto the grid. When linked to a catchment, the boundary element must flow-based boundary. Inflow hydrographs will be added to any flow also set up on the boundary element itself. Multiple catchments can outflow to the same boundary element as well. The total flow contributing to the grid, through the boundary element, will be computed for flow-based boundary elements. Alternatively, when the Boundary Type is elevation-based, the Depth and Hydraulic Grade results are computed.
