Used to take an existing mesh element and create a new mesh that is smoother than the original. The tool applies a corner cutting process to the existing mesh. After selecting the mesh element, you can use <ctrl+data points> to select edges to remain sharp during the subdivision.
You can access this tool from the following:
- Ribbon:
- Toolbox:
Modify Meshes
Setting | Description |
---|
Output Type |
Sets the method used to create the subdivision mesh.
- SubD Poly — Creates typical corner cutting results.
- SubD Tess — Produces a smoother result that, if the subdivision is continued an infinite number of times, gives the closest approximation to the optimal result.

SubD Level |
Controls the number of times the mesh element facets are subdivided. |
Keep Original |
If on, the original mesh element is retained in the model. |
All Sharps |
If on, all sharp edges in the original mesh are retained, with only the faces subdivided into smaller facets. |
