Bentley OpenUtilities CONNECT Edition Help

To Install Bentley OpenUtilities Designer

Bentley OpenUtilities Designer is installed by running the installation wizard, which launches automatically from the distribution CD. The installer first determines whether Bentley OpenUtilities Designer is already installed on the machine. If not, it provides installation and setup options for a new installation. If Bentley OpenUtilities Designer already resides on the machine, the installer offers three options: Upgrade, Repair, or Uninstall.

By default, the installer will store Bentley OpenUtilities Designer files in a “Bentley” folder in the Program Files directory of the local C drive. You can open a browse window to select a different location.

With both a new and upgraded installation, you can install the following components:

  • Bentley OpenUtilities Designer (includes Structural Analysis and Configuration Assistant)
  • User Manual (end-user documentation for Bentley OpenUtilities Designer and Structural Analysis in PDF format)
  • Bentley OpenUtilities Designer Server
  • License Manager Server

During installation, the installer creates shortcuts on the desktop (for Bentley OpenUtilities Designer and Bentley OpenUtilities Designer Server) and items on the Start menu (for Bentley OpenUtilities Designer, Bentley OpenUtilities Designer Server, and the User Manual).

  1. Note: Installation requires local administrative rights, which means the default administrative rights for that operating system. If these default rights have been modified, the installer will not be able to update the Windows Registry correctly.
Launch the installation wizard on the distribution CD. Or run setup.exe in the Setup folder of the distribution CD.
  2. Click Next to proceed with the installation
  3. Provide the name of the user and the company in the User Name and Company Name boxes and then click Next.
  4. To install to the default destination, click Next. To install to a different folder, click Browse and select another folder.
  5. Select the components that you want to install and click Next.
  6. Type the service name for the system SDN and click Next.
  7. In the Net8 Configuration Assistant dialog box, select Local Net Service Name configuration and click Next.
  8. Select Add and click Next to configure the user’s access to the service name.
  9. Choose either Do not test or Perform test and then click Next until the installation process is completed.
  10. Click Finish to close the installer.
