Launching GenerativeComponents
You will begin by launching GenerativeComponents and creating a GenerativeComponents document file, called a design file.
There are several ways to launch GenerativeComponents. Here you will use the most conventional way.
Exercise: Launching GenerativeComponents
In the program group, double-click the GenerativeComponents icon.
or
In Windows Explorer, double-click a DGN file icon (with the extension.dgn).
or
Drag a DGN file icon from Windows Explorer onto the GenerativeComponents icon.
or
In the Windows Explorer, double-click the icon for the file, GenerativeComponents.exe.
Exercise: Create and open a design file
- Continuing in the Welcome to GenerativeComponents screen, click Start a work session (the blue area with an arrow on the extreme right of the Welcome page). This points to the Work Page, where you can start a work session. It lists the Recent WorkSets and Recent Files. You can also browse to a particular file. The New dialog appears.

Select the New File icon.
The New dialos opens from which you can create a new file.

Type the file name
Quick Start in the
File name field.
There is no need to type the extension .dgn because it will be automatically appended for you.

Click
Save.
The file opens and you are presented with the default GenerativeComponents application window interface. The title bar displays the name of the open file.
