To Interactively Import a File in Another Format
- Open the DGN file (or create a new DGN file) into which the IGES, Parasolid, ACIS SAT, CGM, STL, STEP AP203/AP214, Image, or Text file is to be placed.

Choose File > Import > Exchange File Types or 3D Modeling File Types > IGES, Parasolids, ACIS SAT, CGM, STEP AP203/AP214, CAD Files, Image, or Text.
The appropriate initial import dialog opens.
- Select the filename and directory.

Click Open.
The appropriate secondary import dialog opens for the file type being imported.
Type This dialog opens IGES Import IGES File dialog Parasolid Import Parasolid XMT File dialog ACIS SAT Import ACIS SAT File dialog CGM Import CGM File dialog STEP AP203/AP214 Import STEP AP203/AP214 File dialog STL Import STL File dialog CAD Files Import dialog Image Select Image File dialog Text Include Text File dialog - (Optional) Modify the import settings.

Click Import.
The file opens. Messages that describe the progress of the conversion are displayed in the Status area and saved in a Log file.
Note: To interactively import a 3D DWG or DXF file, the open DGN file must be 3D. Unless you are sure that the IGES file is 2D, the open DGN file should be 3D. Be sure the DGN file has appropriate working units (see Keeping units and measurements correct) .
