To load and translate MEP RFA content
In order for MEP RFA files to display in the Place Mechanical Content dialog, you must import them with the Bentley RFA Interpreter Wizard.
- Select the (RFA Interpreter Wizard).

From the Bentley RFA Interpreter Wizard, use the
Destination drop down menu to determine
whether you want RFA entries to be created in the
Workset catalog or
Organization catalog.
The
Add Files and
Add Folder buttons allow adding selective RFA
files or a folder to translate.
- To add RFA files, click Add Files. That opens the Select RFA Files dialog. Navigate to the directory containing the RFA files and select the RFA file(s) that you want to translate and click Open.
- To add RFA folder content, click Add Folder. That opens the Browse For Folder dialog. Navigate to the directory folder containing the RFA files. Select the folder that you want to translate and click OK. The RFA files contained in the selected folder, are added to the Selected RFAs list box.
Tip: When you download RFA files from the Internet, to use them in your workset, make a note as to where your browser saves the files so that you can quickly navigate to them while using the Wizard.The selected RFA files are added to the Bentley RFA Interpreter Wizard list box. The Remove button activates, allowing you to remove selected RFA file from the list.

After adding RFA files or RFA folder content, the
Next button is enabled. Click
Next.
A progress bar appears to report the loading progress of selected file(s).
When translation is complete, the translated RFA files display in Map Categories screen with below attributes, you can alter suitably:- RFA Category — to amend, click Apply Category to selected RFA files and pick one from the drop down list provided in the secondary dialog opened.
- Discipline — to map a blank discipline or revise, simply click the Discipline column field to open a drop down menu, or click Apply Discipline to selected RFA files and pick a discipline from the list of discipline provided.
- Building Designer Category — the default Building Designer category mapped to RFA; to revise, click the field and pick a category from the drop down list provided.

When all RFA files are assigned a discipline, the
Next button is enabled. Click
Next.
The
Select Type screen reports RFA Family and Types records
mapped to Building Designer families. The catalog entry names are made by
combining the RFA name and the Type name, however you can change the default
Building Designer family name by clicking in the column .
When you change the family name for parent RFA family types,
the family name for the children RFA family types also change. To alter the
name for RFA children family types alone, highlight and check the child RFA
type and click in the Building Designer family column to edit.
The warning may include Already imported for RFA files that were imported in past session. When you are done changing family names, click Next.
- Now the Map Attributes screen displays RFA file Object Styles and Building Designer Part and Family assignments. You can click a row in the Building Designer Part and Family column to change a part and family assignment for the RFA object. Pick one from the options list or filter to narrow down the list and select a desired part and family. You can also turn on one or more check boxes in the Use RFA Materials column, to keep the RFA materials versus the materials defined by the part and family. If you keep the RFA materials, they only apply to 3D solid surfaces and not 2D symbology.

When all RFA object styles have been mapped, the
Next button is enabled. Click
Next.
Now the
Map Property Names screen displays RFA file parameters
and their corresponding Building Designer properties. If Building Designer
properties are missing for any of the RFA parameters, you can click a row in
the
Building Designer Properties column to select a property
from a drop down list for that item. You are not required to map all unmapped
attributes.
When you are done assigning Building Designer properties to RFA parameters, click Create Catalog Entries.
- Now the Wizard interprets and translates the RFA files. A progress bar momentarily displays the datagroup entry creation status. When all Data Group entries are created, the Bentley RFA Interpreter Wizard displays information regarding the successful translation. Click Finish to dismiss the Bentley RFA Interpreter Wizard.
